UNILORIN FM sets stage for new talents

The General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3 FM, Mr Ibrahim Akintola Idris (Alooma), has assured stakeholders that the station would continue to serve as a hub for talent hunting, grooming, and the production of future stars and leaders in broadcasting.

Mr Alooma gave this assurance last Wednesday (June 3, 2026) while receiving a team of students from the Department of English who were on a field trip.

The ace broadcaster disclosed that UNILORIN FM would soon organise another general audition to discover talents within the University and among other relevant stakeholders.

According to him, the station has produced many great on-air personalities and distinguished individuals including the world record breaker Oloyede Olusegun O’Daniel,  former  and current UNILORIN Students’ Union leaders, legislator, highly respected on-air personalities, and numerous professionals across various fields. He urged students to take advantage of the opportunities available at the radio station to build successful careers.

As part of the visit, Mr Alooma also took time to lecture the students on the history of print and electronic media globally and in Nigeria, the evolution of campus radio, and the impact of UNILORIN FM on the University community.

After the session, a senior staff member of the radio station, Mr Bunmi Obafemi, took the students on a tour of the station’s facilities and explained the operational mode of the University radio.

The leader of the team, Mr Abdulsalam Abdulmatin Olurin, expressed appreciation for the warm reception. He said the students were impressed by the reception and the excellent work the station is doing. He added that they are all ready to develop their careers in radio broadcasting. He also commended the management of the University for establishing the radio station, which has continued to serve staff, students, and humanity well.

Other members of the team were Adedoyin Demilade Mercy, Adekoya Adetunji Yonusimi, Adeniyi Esther Olamide, Abdulsalam Mariam Ayomide, and Ajagbe Oluwaseyi Daniel.
