The Head of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, Prof. Patrick Udende, has reaffirmed his commitment to intensifying research efforts that will make meaningful impact on the University community in line with one of the core mandates of the University.

Prof. Udende, who was recently promoted to the pinnacle of his career, made this known in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (April 8, 2026) in his office.

According to him, achieving impactful research would require strengthening collaborations with scholars of global repute, publishing in reputable outlets, and engaging both local and international communities.

“For me to achieve this, I will strengthen collaboration with scholars of global repute and publish in reputable outlets, he said, adding, ‘‘I will also engage with my environment, near and far, to initiate or improve development projects, participate in public enlightenment, and contribute to capacity-building programmes,”

The Head of the Department noted that attaining the rank of Professor is not merely a personal milestone but a call to greater responsibility and service.

Prof.  Udende explained that the University of Ilorin, like other reputable institutions globally, operates on a guiding tripod of teaching, research, and community services, stressing that all his contributions to the growth of the University would align with these principles.

While expressing his sense of fulfilment over his elevation, the Mass Communication scholar attributed his success to divine grace as well as the support and encouragement of colleagues, family members, associates, and friends.

He said, “I feel fulfilled. God Almighty has crowned not only my efforts but also the support, prayers, and encouragement I received, especially from members of the Department of Mass Communication, my family, associates, and friends.”

Prof. Udende also urged members of the Faculty to prioritise teamwork and shared responsibility, noting that such collaboration is essential for institutional growth and global competitiveness.

He commended staff of the Department for their exemplary cooperation, commitment, and support, particularly during examination periods following intensive teaching sessions.

The newly promoted Professor of Mass Communication encouraged the students to dedicate quality time to their studies, describing it as their primary purpose of being in the University.

He emphasised that success can only be achieved through dedication, commitment, and resilience, adding that challenges would have little room to hinder determined students.

“While striving for academic excellence, students must also understand that academic success alone is not sufficient for a well-rounded graduate,” he added.
