UNILORIN cadet corps holds 27th POP, handover ceremony

The University of Ilorin Cadet Corps has held its 27th passing-out parade (POP) and handover ceremony, marking another milestone in the history of the institution’s paramilitary unit.
The event took place penultimate Thursday (July 30, 2026), at the Main Bowl of the University Stadium and attracted paramilitary organisations from various tertiary institutions across Kwara State.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Staff Adviser of the Cadet Corps, Mr W. O. Raji, congratulated the outgoing cadets for their resilience, discipline and commitment throughout their training. He urged them to uphold the values they had acquired during their service.
He said, “As you step forward, remember this: it is not just about getting a job or making money. The uniform you are leaving behind has taught you discipline, teamwork and service. Take those values with you, stay physically fit, mentally sharp and morally upright.”
Mr Raji charged the graduating cadets to represent the corps with integrity wherever they find themselves, encouraging them to be problem-solvers and worthy ambassadors of the institution.
Speaking further, Mr Raji described the corps as a platform for character development, urging them to embrace discipline, teamwork and leadership while remaining committed to learning and personal growth.
“The Corps is not just a programme; it is a family. Keep the bond alive, serve your community, serve your nation, and remember that discipline is the bridge between goals and achievement,” he added.
In an interview with UNILORIN Bulletin, the outgoing Commanding Officer, Cadet Major V. O. Adewumi, expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the University management on their continued support for the Cadet Corps.
He appealed for sustained support for the Command and advised his successor to lead with integrity, passion and dedication.
Commander Adewumi also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his departure from the Command as emotional while expressing confidence that the Corps would continue to achieve greater success.
Earlier, Cadet Lieutenant Teslim O. Sallee, congratulated the outgoing cadets on the successful completion of their training and commended them for contributing to the growth of the Command. He assured them that the experience and values gained from the Corps would remain beneficial throughout their lives.
In his acceptance speech, the new Commanding Officer of the UNILORIN Cadet Corps, Cadet V. O. Oyenuga, a 300-level student of the Department of Arts Education, praised the achievements of his predecessors and pledged to build on their legacy by working diligently to advance the Command.
Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of awards and certificates, the induction of new cadets, and a ceremonial drill display.
Among the dignitaries present were the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu; the Acting Director of the University Security Unit, Mr Paul Ogidi,who was represented by Mr Sulaiman Wasiu; the Students Union President, Mr Mozeed Adam; and representatives of the Sheriff Guard, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Man O’ War, and other paramilitary organisations.
