UNILORIN alumna shines in Borno
…..Akogun, Ikibe commend her efforts

A 2025 graduate of the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, University of Ilorin, Miss Victoria Oluwapelumi Joseph, has become a symbol of celebration among her colleagues and the people of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State where she is currently discharging her duties as a Member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Miss Joseph, who teaches Agricultural Science at the Government College, Maiduguri, was recently in the news for generating impacts through her personal community development programme, which she christened “Education for the Future”
In a telephone chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, Miss Joseph said that the initiative is “an educational awareness and student support project that has reached no fewer than 200 public secondary school students of the Government College, Maiduguri and Government Women Day Secondary School, Maiduguri.
Miss Joseph explained that the project focuses on the importance of education, staying in school, developing positive learning attitudes, embracing career opportunities, and making better choices for the future.
She added that the project also provides educational support to 20 selected students, with 10 beneficiaries from each of the participating schools.
Through awareness sessions, interactive discussions, and learning support facilities, Miss Joseph said that the project has been inspiring students to value education and believe in their potential for a brighter future.
Reacting, the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, commended the ex-Unilorite for making the University proud even as a youth corps member.
Mr Akogun said that no one should be surprised because the students of the University of Ilorin have always been inspired to appreciate the need to be socially responsible and responsive.
The Director said that the University expects every graduate of the University to make positive impacts wherever they find themselves as he assured that the University would continue to produce graduate that would contribute to national and human development.
Also speaking on the development, the Chairman of the UNILORIN Television Management Board, Prof. Solomon I. Ikibe, described Miss Joseph as “a decent, gentle, quiet, diligent and studious girl from a very humble family”.
Prof. Ikibe, who is also a former Head of the Department of the Performing and Film Arts, said that he was not surprised with what Miss Joseph is doing even as a youth corps member, saying that despite coming from a humble background, Miss Joseph has always tried to distinguish herself.
While saying that he knows Miss Joseph quite well, Prof. Ikibe recalled that during the holidays and the 2022 industrial dispute between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government, which led to the closure of the University, Miss Joseph helped herself by working as a sales girl at BOVAS Petrol Station in the Sawmill area of Ilorin.
Prof. Ikibe enjoined Miss Joseph not to relent in her efforts at always doing the best she can, saying that the future belongs to those who are always willing to create impacts.
