TETFund, Budget Office commend UNILORIN on transparency, compliance

The University of Ilorin has received commendation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Budget Office of the Federation, Abuja, for its transparency, accountability, sound financial management and strict compliance with government guidelines in the management of intervention funds and staff recruitment.
The commendations came last Wednesday (July 15, 2026) when separate delegations from TETFund and the Budget Office paid courtesy visits to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, following the completion of reconciliation and verification exercises at the University.
Speaking during the visit, the leader of the TETFund delegation, who also doubles as the Assistant Director of Finance, TETFund, Mr. Rotimi Kolawole, explained that the exercise was not a detailed audit but a reconciliation aimed at ensuring that TETFund’s financial records correspond with those of the University to guarantee that both parties maintain accurate and consistent financial information.
Mr Kolawole noted that the reconciliation exercise had become necessary because agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), the National Assembly and other relevant bodies frequently request details of TETFund intervention. He added that, as a product of taxpayers’ money, TETFund places a premium on accountability, transparency and prudent management of public funds.
The team leader disclosed that unlike in some institutions where discrepancies were observed, the University of Ilorin’s financial records of the University of Ilorin corresponded perfectly with those of TETFund. He also confirmed that taxes deducted from contractors were being duly remitted and commended the accuracy of the University’s basis of financial calculations.
He specifically applauded the staff of the University’s Bursary Department for their diligence, professionalism and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
In a separate meeting, the delegation from the Budget Office of the Federation, Abuja, led by Mr Akyuku J. Emmanuel, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), said the visit was to verify the implementation of the 2025 recruitment approval and financial clearance granted to the University.
Mr Emmanuel explained that the University was granted approval to fill some vacancies in August 2025 and that the verification exercise was aimed at confirming whether the approved positions had been filled, whether the recruited personnel had been properly captured in the relevant government records and whether the exercise was conducted in line with the guidelines issued by the Budget Office.
Presenting the outcome of the verification, Mr Emmanuel expressed satisfaction with the University’s compliance, stating that the institution recruited the exact number of staff approved for it and adhered strictly to all the prescribed guidelines governing the exercise.
He commended the University Management for its transparency, diligence and strict observance of due process, describing the successful implementation of the recruitment exercise as a demonstration of the institution’s commitment to accountability and compliance with extant government regulations.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Olalere Adeyemi, thanked both delegations for their visits and for the confidence they reposed in the University.
He expressed delight that the financial records of the University accurately corresponded with those of TETFund, describing the outcome as a reflection of the institution’s commitment to accountability, transparency and due diligence.
On the issue of tax remittance, the Vice Chancellor said management is confident in the integrity of the University Bursar, saying he had no doubt that all taxes deducted from contractors had been duly remitted in accordance with the law.
Joining the Vice Chancellor to receive the delegations were the Registrar, who was represented by the Deputy Registrar, Directorate of Human Resources (Academic), Mr John Aiyedun Osieka; the Deputy Bursar, Mr Muhammad Akanbi; Deputy Bursar (Payroll), Mr Aransiola O.J.; a Principal Accountant at the Bursary Department, Mr Olorunyomi I.J. and Mr B. B. Lawal.
