As students of the University of Ilorin prepare to embark on sessional holiday following the impending conclusion of the Rain Semester examinations, the Sub-Dean of the Student Affairs Division, Dr Rasheed Onagun, has encouraged the students to find a way of impacting positively on their respective communities.
Dr Onagun gave this advice last Tuesday (July 14, 2026) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.
The don, who teaches at the Department of History and International Studies, said that it is very important for the students to demonstrate to their families that the investment they are making on them is justified.
Dr Onagun urged the students not only to be of good behaviour at all times but also find a means of helping their parents and guardians in order to encourage them to do more.
The don added that the students should also use the holiday period to put into practice the theoretical and practical knowledge as well as good characters inculcated in them at the University.
He said that as undergraduates, the society expects more from them as those who are coming behind them would surely imitate or emulate whatever they do.
“If they do well, more parents and guardians would be encouraged to enroll their children in universities and if they do otherwise, they would be unknowingly discouraging other parents”, Dr Onagun noted.
On the graduating students, Dr Onagun congratulated them for achieving what he called “a significant milestone in their careers”.
He appealed to the.prospective graduands to always remember that they have become unofficial ambassadors of the University and must, therefore, be always upright.
He assured the students who would be returning to the campus of better service delivery on their return as he urged them to also find time to prepare for the next session by studying ahead and having functional interactions with their senior colleagues and professionals.
