Public Admin. Dept. hosts summit on AI-Driven governance

The Department of Public Administration, University of Ilorin, has hosted a summit on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and emerging digital technologies can enhance administrative efficiency, decision-making, transparency, and service delivery in government systems.
The summit, which brought together administrators, lecturers, students, and industry experts, was held last Tuesday (May 5, 2026) at the University Auditorium.
The theme of the summit was “Artificial Intelligence for Transforming Governance in the 21st Century.”
In his opening address, a lecturer in the Department, Dr Muhammed Bello, emphasised that the Department is committed to producing graduates not only with academic excellence but also with strong moral values and societal relevance.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA), Mr Abdullahi Sulaiman Oba, spoke on the role of transportation in economic growth, governance, and urban development.
He outlined the causes of traffic congestion and stressed the importance of effective traffic management. Mr Oba further noted that AI-driven technologies are already being applied in traffic management across Kwara State and Nigeria, aiding policy formulation and implementation.
Mr Henry Umbechi, a Generative AI Lead and Prompt Engineer at Ilorin Innovation Hub while presenting his paper, titled “Letter of Advice” traced the evolution of AI and noted that its adoption has significantly simplified complex tasks.
In his remarks, the National President of the National Association of Public Administration Students (NAPAS), Comrade Adeshina Adewale Ayuba, encouraged students to leverage insights gained from the summit in their future endeavours.
