A Professor at the Department of Chemistry, University of Ilorin,  Mubarak Ameen Oloduowo, has been inaugurated as the Chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) for a three-year tenure, with a pledge to strengthen unity, innovation, and professional excellence among members.

Prof. Ameen made the pledge last Tuesday (May 19, 2026) in his acceptance speech at the inauguration ceremony of the new Executive Committee of the Society held at the Auditorium Basement.

The newly inaugurated Chairman expressed appreciation to members of the Society for the confidence reposed in him, describing his election as “a call to service, collaboration, and shared purpose.”

He also acknowledged the contributions of the immediate past Chairman, Prof. O. S. Oguntoye, and other past leaders for laying a strong foundation for the growth and relevance of the Society.

According to him, “Our Society occupies a critical position in advancing chemical sciences, fostering professional development, and contributing meaningfully to national growth.”

Prof. Ameen stated that his    Administration would focus on strengthening unity among members, promoting excellence in research and practice, and improving the visibility and impact of the Society within and outside Kwara State.

He added that the new leadership would create more opportunities for capacity building, mentorship, industry collaboration, and community engagement.

The Chairman further stressed the need for chemists to remain at the forefront of innovation and practical solutions capable of addressing societal challenges and improving lives.

“As chemists, we must position ourselves at the forefront of innovation and solutions that improve lives,” he said.

He called on members of the Society to support the Administration through active participation and collective commitment to achieving greater milestones for the Chapter.

Other members of the new Executive Committee inaugurated are Vice Chairman (Academic), Prof. Muibat Olabisi Bello; Secretary, Prof. Olubunmi Atolani; Treasurer, Dr Abdullahi Ola Rajee; Financial Secretary, Dr Akeem Adebayo Jimoh; Membership Secretary, Dr Christiana Oluwakemi Adeyemi; Public Relations Officer, Dr Halimah Funmilayo Babamale; Assistant Secretary, Dr Ibrahim Ayinla Kuranga; and Ex-Officio, Prof. O. S. Oguntoye, while the Vice Chairman (Industry) will be selected by the new Executives Committee.

Earlier in his goodwill message, the National President of the CSN, Prof. Rufus Sha’ato, congratulated the Kwara State Chapter on the inauguration of its new Executive Committee, describing the occasion as “a celebration of fellowship, unity, and professional camaraderie among members.”

Prof. Sha’ato said the event marked “the beginning of a new phase of leadership and service within the Chapter and the wider CSN ecosystem.”

The CSN President encouraged the newly elected officers to approach their responsibilities with “dedication, integrity, innovation, and a firm commitment to advancing the ideals and objectives of our great Society.”

He noted that the strength and progress of the Society are deeply rooted in the vibrancy and commitment of its chapters, urging the Kwara State Chapter to continue promoting professional excellence, mentorship, research collaborations, and active participation in initiatives that advance Chemistry for national development.

Prof. Sha’ato also commended the immediate past leadership of the Chapter for its contributions to the growth of the Society at both the Chapter and National levels.

While speaking, the outgoing State Chairman, Prof. O. S. Oguntoye, commended members of the Chapter for their support and commitment throughout his Administration, noting that their dedication kept the Chapter active and strong.

Prof. Oguntoye highlighted some achievements of the outgoing Executive Committee, including strategy meetings, sensitisation campaigns, and zonal visitations that led to the registration of over 35 new members into the Chapter. He also cited the successful organisation of a one-day seminar/workshop, impressive participation at the 48th Annual National Conference held at Obafemi Awolowo University, participation in the Annual National Chemistry Competition, and active involvement in the IUPAC Global Women’s Breakfast programme across different zones.

The outgoing Chairman further disclosed that the administration recorded improvement in the financial status of the Chapter and congratulated members who received awards and delivered inaugural lectures during the tenure. He appreciated members for their cooperation and support, while congratulating the newly inaugurated officers, and urging them to build on existing programmes while promoting unity, professionalism, and development within the Society.

The programme was attended by members of the CSN, academics, researchers, past leaders of the Society, and invited guests from within and outside Kwara State.They include Prof. O. S. Oguntoye, Mrs O. C. Olugbemi, Dr A. O. Rajee, Dr A. A. Jimoh, Dr M. O. Bamigboye, Dr O. D. Saliu, Dr Mariam T. Baker, Dr Taofiqat O. Abu, Dr  Adedosu, Prof. O. O. E. Onawumi, Dr Shifau Abubakar-Jaji, Prof. H. K. Okoro, Prof. F. O. Nwosu, Prof. Marili F. Zubair, and Dr S. O. Ibrahim, among others.
