NUJ, RATTAWU celebrate UNILORIN 89.3FM at 17, applaud varsity management
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), UNILORIN Chapel, and the Radio, Television, and Theatre Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), UNILORIN Chapter, have joined thousands of listeners to celebrate UNILORIN 89.3FM on the occasion of its 17th anniversary, describing the campus radio station as a symbol of credible broadcasting, professionalism, and community service.
In separate statements, the Chairman of UNILORIN NUJ, Mr Tijani Adekola Adewoyin, and his RATTAWU counterpart, Comrade Yinka Soliu Magaji-Nda, commended the University management, led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on its unwavering commitment to the growth of the station.
Comrade Adewoyin noted that for 17 years, UNILORIN FM has remained consistent in its mandate of informing, educating, and entertaining the University community and the general public, while upholding the ethics of journalism.
According to the NUJ Chairman, the visionary leadership and sustained institutional support from the University administration have provided the enabling environment for UNILORIN FM to thrive and maintain its reputation as the “Voice of the University.”
On his own part, Mr Mogaji-Nda said that UNILORIN FM as a broadcast medium has existed for almost two decades and has contributed significantly to the growth and development of Ilorin, Kwara State, and Nigeria at large.
According to the RATTAWU Chairman, the station has played unique roles in society, including campus news dissemination, public enlightenment, academic support, bridging the gap between the school and the community, development advocacy, cultural promotion, practical media training, talent discovery, and providing a platform for dialogue.
The two Union leaders congratulated the Director of Corporate Affairs Unit, Mr Kunle Akogun, and the Station Manager, Mr Ibrahim Akintola Alooma, on their efforts in ensuring the growth of the University radio station as well as their strategic roles in promoting the image of the University and the radio station, respectively.
They further reiterated the commitment of their members to continue working with the university management to ensure accelerated development.
Both union leaders prayed for more years of greater achievements, technological advancement, and impact for UNILORIN 89.3FM.
