The Vice Chancellor of Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University (MKU), Ilorin, Prof Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, has commended the University of Ilorin on its continuous mentorship of the young faith-based university.

Prof. Jimoh, who is also the immediate past Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology Directorate (COMSIT), University of Ilorin, gave this commendation recently while featuring on a radio programme in Ilorin.

He said that MKU’s vast progression cannot be divorced from the support of the University of Ilorin, particularly the current administration of the University headed by Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, before and since it began operations about four years ago.

He added that the young university is modelled after the University of Ilorin as the desire of the founding fathers and stakeholders of the university is to produce graduates that would be able to compete favourably with their contemporaries across the world as products of the University of Ilorin do.

Prof. Jimoh, who is also a former Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, University of Ilorin, dismissed the criticism of MKU as an advanced Arabic School (Madrasa) simply because it was founded by the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria and renamed after the founder of the Society, who was also a renowned Islamic scholar, Shaykh Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adabiy.

While saying that MKU would continue to be proud of its heritage, Prof. Jimoh explained that the young university is regulated by the National Universities Commission (NUC) just like other public and privately-owned universities all over Nigeria.

He added that the curriculum of all the programmes being run by the university is also the same as those of others while its pioneer set of students who would be graduating from the University next year will be mobilised for national youth service programme by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) next year like their counterparts from sister universities.

Prof. Jimoh explained that the NUC has also approved the commencement of the running of more courses by the young university. The courses, according to the Vice Chancellor, include Nursing Sciences, Public Health, Law, Medical Laboratory Science, and Doctor of  Physiotherapy, among others.

The Vice Chancellor added that students of the University who are running into hundreds are drawn from various parts of the country and even beyond and are learning directly or indirectly how their counterparts at the University of Ilorin conduct themselves.
