In a classic “underdog” turnaround that will be talked about in the hallways of the Department of the Performing and Film Arts for semesters to come, the Maverick FC (200 Level) staged a stunning comeback to defeat the Undisputed Ballers (400 Level), claiming the 2026 HOD Cup title with a 2-1 win.
The tournament, which concluded penultimate Thursday (April 9, 2026) at the UNILORIN Stadium Mainbowl proved that in football much like in film, the script can always change in the final act.
The event was more than just a series of matches; it was a celebration of Departmental unity.
The Acting Head of the Department of the Performing and Film Arts, Dr Shadiat Olabisi Shuaib, officially opened the ceremony and later received the trophy in a symbolic gesture of honour alongside the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Jawondo.
Other notable Faculty members in attendance included the Performing Arts Students Association (PASA) Adviser, Mr Adesina Adegbite, as well as Mr Taiwo Olalusi and Mrs Deborah Yetunde Aina, all of whom witnessed the high-energy atmosphere created by the massive turnout of student supporters.
The 2026 HOD Cup Competition was a resounding success, highlighting not only the sporting abilities of the students but also promoting unity and camaraderie within the Department. The presence of the Department members, coupled with the enthusiastic participation of students, contributed to the overall success of the event.
