Kuranga loses father

The death has been announced of a prominent Islamic scholar and community leader, Shaykh Sa’adu Adebayo Kuranga. Shaykh Kuranga, who retired from the Kwara State Judiciary as an Upper Area Court Judge, died last Wednesday (August 12, 2026) at an advanced age.
The deceased, who until his death was the Imam of the Alege Quarter Mosque, Adabata, Ilorin, was the father of a former Director of Academic Planning of the University of Ilorin and one-time Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).
The burial of the deceased, which was performed on the same day at his residence in Ilorin, was presided over by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki Al-Fulani, who was assisted by many other Principal Imams and senior Muslim clerics.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, led many dignitaries from within and outside the University to the solemn event. These include the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa and a former Head of the Department of Religions, Prof. Abubakir Imam Ali-Agan, among others.
Shaykh Kuranga was survived by many other children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including a Judge of the Ilorin High Court, Justice Nureni Kuranga; the Registrar of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Ilorin, Mr Tajudeen Kuranga and Mr Abdulkadir O. Kuranga, a Senior Assistant Registrar at the University of Ilorin, among several others.
