The Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Kwara State Branch, Mrs Azeezat Quadri Ibrahim has charged staff members of the University of Ilorin, particularly newly inducted members of the CIPM, to uphold professionalism and ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.

Mrs Ibrahim gave the charge last Monday (April 27, 2026) at the Auditorium Basement during the 69th induction ceremony of the Institution, where a total of 26 full members and 137 Associate Members were formally admitted into the human resource profession.

The Deputy Registrar urged the inductees to see their membership as a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to organisational effectiveness and national development through sound people management practices.

Delivering the keynote lecture, the guest speaker, Mrs Christiana Famro, spoke on the theme “Redefining People Management in Public Service.”

She highlighted the urgent need for reforms in public sector human resource practices, noting that outdated systems and rigid bureaucracies often hinder efficiency and innovation.

Mrs Famro further stressed that public service managers must embrace strategic thinking and prioritise employee development to improve service delivery. She noted that effective people management goes beyond administrative functions and should focus on building motivated, skilled, and adaptable workforces capable of meeting contemporary governance challenges.

Earlier in his remarks, the President and Chairman of the Institute, Mr Ahmed Ladan Gobir, noted that the induction was a significant milestone in the careers of the inductees. He said it was to ‘‘reaffirm our shared commitment to advancing excellence in human resource management’’.

Mr Gobir congratulated the inductees and encouraged them to uphold the values that define the noble profession.

In an appreciation message delivered on behalf of the inductees, the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, expressed gratitude to the Institute for the opportunity to be inducted into the profession.

He assured the CIPM leadership of the commitment of the inductees to uphold the values and standards of the Institute while contributing positively to their respective organisations.

One of the highlights of the event was the conferment of the Visionary Leadership Award on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof.  Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, by the Kwara State Chapter of the CIPM.

The President of the professional body, Mr Gobir, presented the award to the Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola.
