Saturday, September 26, 2026, was another glorious day in the life of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and his wife, who is also a retired Deputy Registrar at the University, Mrs Muibat Egbewole, as their son, Abduljelil, tied the nuptial knots with his heartthrob, former Miss Zainab Abdullahi, at the Atlantic Events Centre, Ilorin.

The bride, who is a lawyer like the groom, is a daughter of a former Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

Conducting the solemnisation of the holy matrimony, the Grand Kadi of Kwara State, Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, enjoined them to always be guided by the provisions of the Holy Quran.

Justice Kamaldeen, who is also a Member of the National Judicial Council (NJC), described marriage as a sacred institution, which must be protected and preserved by a couple, their relations and the entire society.

 

He equally encouraged the new couple to emulate the sterling qualities of their parents who, he said, remained together for decades despite occasional challenges.

The jurist, who congratulated the Vice Chancellor and his wife as well as the parents of the bride for living to witness the wedding of their children, also enjoined the new couple to be prepared to raise their anticipated children in accordance with the provisions of the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad as well as the counsel of their parents.

Justice Kamaldeen later performed the Nikkah in accordance to Muslim rites after the presentation of a dowry of ₦300,000 by Abduljelil to Zainab in the presence of their parents and other well-wishers.

The Nikkah was later followed by the wedding reception during which guests were treated to good music and sumptuous meals.

Among the dignitaries that attended the event were the immediate past Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Emeritus Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON; and his wife, Dr Raheemah Oloyede.

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, Surv. Abiodun Jacob Aluko, led other external members of the Council such as Elder Ayobami Oladele Afolabi, Alhaja Abosede Juwon Olayiwola, Pharm. Racheal Tinuke Alabi, Hon. Idowu Akeem Babatunde and  Hon. Dipe Olusina Adeniyi to the occasion. Internal Members of Council, like Prof. R.G. Bello, Prof Mariam Mustapha-Abdulrahim, Prof. G.T Arosanyin, Prof. M.A. Ijaiya, and Mr Abdulrasheed Dauda, were also in attendance.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola and her husband, Dr Rasheed Odunola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Olalere Adeyemi; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Mukthar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal; and the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa, as well as the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Prof. M. A. N. Adeboye; and Deans of several Faculties.

Others were the Vice Chancellor of Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University, Ilorin, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh and the Vice Chancellor of the Fountain University, Osogbo, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim.

The list of the dignitaries also include two former Deputy Vice Chancellors (Management Services), University of Ilorin, Prof. Suleiman Folorunso Ambali and Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik; a former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Kwara State, Mr Salman Ayinla Jawondo, SAN; a veteran journalist, Alhaji Najeem Jimoh, FNGE; the Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin Central Mosque, Prof. Nasir AbdusSalam; a former Deputy Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin Central Mosque, Dr Yusuf Kolawole Jimoh; a former Head of the Department of Islamic Law, Prof. AbdulRazzaq Abdulmajeed Alaro; and the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun.
