Egbewole reaffirms commitment to digital services

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has reaffirmed the commitment of the University to leveraging technology for quality education, research and healthcare delivery with the launch of the Continuing Medical Education Technology(CMES) device.
Prof. Egbewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, made this call last Thursday, (July 30, 2026) while launching the CMES application at the Procurement Conference Room, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
The Vice Chancellor described the initiative as a significant milestone that would benefit humanity through improved access to technology-driven learning and innovation. She explained that the CMES device would make learning more effective for students by enhancing digital learning experiences, strengthening research activities and promoting digital literacy across the University community.
He also noted that the technology would support professional development for staff and students, expressing the University’s delight at the donation while looking forward to the second phase of the project to further expand its impact.
In his remarks, the Acting Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Prof. Sikiru Abayomi Biliaminu, commended the facilitators of the training programme and the founder of the Techies Without Borders initiative, Prof. Emmanuel Idowu, for considering the University worthy of the innovative device.
He noted that while technology offers immense possibilities, its effectiveness ultimately depends on those who utilise it, stressing the importance of continuous capacity building for users.
Prof. Biliaminu also expressed appreciation to the University management for its unwavering support towards technological advancement and pledged that the donated device would be adequately secured and properly utilised within the hospital to improve service delivery.
Speaking on the significance of the innovation, the University of Ilorin Liaison Officer, Prof. Peter Adeoye, described the benefits of the CMES technology as enormous, particularly in the health sector.
According to him, the device provides real-time access to health information and services, thereby enhancing healthcare delivery, supporting clinical decision-making and facilitating timely access to vital medical information for both healthcare professionals and patients.
He expressed optimism that the technology would contribute significantly to improved healthcare outcomes and institutional efficiency.
Prof. Emmanuel Idowu, the Nigeria Liaison for Techies Without Borders and facilitator of the “Training the Trainers” session, explained that the CMES technology is built on Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing, enabling users to access information in real time.
According to him, the application is designed to bridge knowledge gaps by providing instant access to reliable educational and healthcare resources, thereby enhancing learning, research and professional practice through cutting-edge digital innovation.
Prof. Idowu disclosed that the CMES application is currently being deployed in about 20 countries across the world, a testament to its global relevance and effectiveness.
He expressed optimism that the University of Ilorin would maximise the opportunities offered by the technology, adding that the adoption of the platform by the University would further strengthen its drive towards digital transformation, international collaboration and technology-enabled education.
Also speaking, the immediate past Director of the Centre for Internationalisation and Strategic Partnerships (CISP), Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, who was represented by the Assistant Director, Dr. Samuel Bolaji Oladimeji, said the Centre played a pivotal role in facilitating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Techies Without Borders and the University of Ilorin. He noted that the partnership aligns with the University’s vision of fostering global collaborations that promote innovation, capacity building and institutional development.
Prof. Onireti expressed delight that the collaborative efforts had culminated in the successful launch of the CMES technology, describing it as the product of sustained engagement, strategic planning and mutual commitment between both institutions.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Vice Chancellor, (Management Services), Prof. Olalere Adeyemi, Prof. Hannah Oluyemi Olafimihan and Prof. Kolawole Wasiu Wahab, amongst others.
