Egbewole mourns Oladipo, pioneer online journalist

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed profound shock and sadness on the demise of one of the pioneers of online journalism in Nigeria, Mr Dotun Oladipo.
Mr Oladipo, who died last Tuesday (August 25, 2026) at the age of 56, was the publisher of the Eagle Online news medium.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that the University received the news of the transition of the veteran journalist with heavy heart.
He explained that the nation and humanity have lost a patriot and outstanding journalist, saying that the death of Mr Oladipo at this point in time would remain painful, particularly as his services are still needed in the sustained efforts at national development.
The Vice Chancellor, who is the Convener/Chairman of the Consortium of Kwara Universities (KU8+), sympathised with the family, friends and colleagues of the departed journalist.
He prayed to God to comfort all his loved ones and grant the deceased eternal felicity.
