Egbewole inaugurates LOC for 11th U6+ Confab

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has charged the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the forthcoming 11th International Conference of the U6+ Consortium of African Universities to ensure that the Conference, which is scheduled for next year, is indexed and that its Book of Proceedings and journal are published promptly.
Prof. Egbewole gave the charge last Monday (September 21, 2026) while inaugurating the Committee at the Auditorium Basement.
The Vice Chancellor said his participation in the 8th, 9th and 10th editions of the U6+ Conferences held in South Africa, Ghana and Kenya, respectively, had afforded him the opportunity to identify areas requiring improvement. He said that the experiences would provide useful lessons for the University as it prepares to host the next edition.
Prof. Egbewole explained that the decision to host the 11th edition was reached at the 10th U6+ meeting held in Kenya, stressing that the early inauguration of the LOC was deliberate to give the committee sufficient time to plan and deliver a befitting international conference.
According to him, the University has a responsibility to build on the successes of previous editions while addressing identified gaps to demonstrate its capacity to host a conference that meets international standards.
Prof. Egbewole particularly emphasised the need for the Conference proceedings to be indexed, describing this as one of the major lessons from previous editions. He also urged the committee to ensure that the Book of Proceedings and journal are published much earlier than was achieved in previous conferences.
He disclosed that the Conference had been scheduled for either August or September to provide adequate time for the University to plan, organise and package the event effectively.
The Vice Chancellor expressed confidence in the calibre and experience of the LOC members, saying their expertise would enable the University to deliver a successful conference capable of further strengthening its standing within the U6+ Consortium.
Prof. Egbewole also directed the committee to submit regular reports to his office, preferably monthly, to keep him abreast of its preparations and progress.
In her acceptance speech, the Chairperson of the LOC and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola, expressed the committee’s readiness to take up the responsibility, assuring the Vice Chancellor that members would work diligently to meet the expectations of the University.
Other members of the LOC are the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar A. Etudaiye, Alternate Chairman; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal; and the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. J.O. Olaoye.
Others are the Acting Dean, Student Affairs Unit, Dr M.A. Akanmu; the Director, Centre for Internationalisation and Strategic Partnership (CISP), Prof. J.A. Adeniran; the Director, Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT), Prof. Sidiqat Aderinoye-Abdulwahab; Prof. Grace F. Adepoju of the Department of Ophthalmology; Prof. Oluyemisi B. Fawole of the Department of Agronomy; and the Project Manager, Ranking, Prof. S.F. Ambali.
Also on the Committee are the Director, Academic Planning Unit, Prof. A.A. Adeoye; the Editor-in-Chief, U6+, Prof. H.K. Okoro; the Director, Science, Technology and Innovation Park, Prof. T.M. Akande; the Director, Works Department, Mr R.K. Amao; the Deputy Director, Estate, Dr S. Baba; the Desk Officer, U6+, Dr. Bilqis A. Lawal; the Acting Director, Security, Mr P.
