In his first official assignment as a member of the Body of Benchers, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, last Tuesday (April 21, 2026) joined his colleagues on the Body to attend this year’s edition of the “First Term Dinner”.

Apart from the event held in Abuja that was attended by Prof. Egbewole, the event was also simultaneously held in all the seven campuses of the Nigerian Law School.

The dinner is a longtime tradition, which is organised for aspiring lawyers who are currently undergoing training at the Law School.

In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, an alumnus of the University of Ilorin and General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Idris Mobolaji Ojibara, confirmed that the dinner is an age long tradition for bar aspirants.

Dr Ojibara, who is also a Member of the prestigious Body of Benchers, said that the event is “a quiet but profound rite of passage where ambition is always refined into responsibility.”

The NBA Chief Scribe added that the annual event is also a solemn gathering where tradition reminds “the future bar that the law is not merely a profession, but a calling—one that demands intellect with integrity, advocacy with humility, and privilege with purpose”.
