As the Rain Semestre of the ongoing 2025/2026 academic session gradually runs out, an appeal has gone to students of the University of Ilorin to dedicate more time to their studies.

This appeal was made last Thursday (May 21, 2026) by the Sub-Dean of the Student Affairs Division of the University, Dr Rasheed Onagun,  in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.

Dr Onagun, who teaches at the Department of History and International Studies, reminded the students that they were primarily in school not for any other reason but to study, saying that knowledge acquisition should, therefore, be their major concern.

The don explained that the Second Semestre examinations would soon start as he said that only those who prepare adequately would obtain good grades in their courses.

While saying that there is nothing wrong with students engaging in one social activity or the other, Dr Onagun urged them not to do that at the expense of their primary mission in school.

Dr Onagun said that the students should always be concerned about their future as he warned them that the number of parties or outings they have has no positive effects on their employability but rather it is the quality of the degree and knowledge they possess that would determine how far they would go in life.

Dr Onagun, therefore, encouraged the students to cultivate the habit of using the library, pointing out that libraries are stocked with relevant books and journals, which students can consult to broaden their knowledge.

He also encouraged the students to form study groups among themselves through which they can discuss academic issues and guide themselves towards better understanding of whatever they are taught in the classroom and laboratories.

Dr Onagun further advised the students that whenever they are in doubt of anything or situation they should contact the Counselling and Human Development Centre of the University or their Level Advisers and even Student Affairs Division for desired support.
