The Directorate of Corporate Affairs and the 39th Students’ Union Executive Council of the University of Ilorin, have expressed their commitment to strengthening collaboration towards promoting the image of the University, sustaining campus harmony and enhancing information dissemination among students.
This commitment was expressed last Monday(October 12, 2026) during a familiarisation visit by the Students’ Union leaders to the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, where they commended the Directorate for its sustained efforts in projecting the image of the University and disseminating relevant information to the internal and external publics of the institution.
Speaking during the visit, the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, congratulated the Executive Committee Members on their election and urged them to sustain the tradition of peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and responsible leadership of the University students.
Mr Akogun described the University as a campus of harmony, noting that the achievement was a product of deliberate efforts by the management and students to maintain cordial relationship and address potential disagreements before they escalate.
He explained that the open-door policy and the willingness of management to engage the Students’ Union leaders on issues affecting students had contributed significantly to the peaceful atmosphere on campus.
According to him, rather than imposing decisions on students, the management usually engages their representatives to explain the circumstances surrounding proposed policies and seek their understanding before implementation.
He said the approach had helped to promote mutual respect and cooperation between the two parties, adding that the Students’ Union remained a critical stakeholder in the information and image-building efforts of the University.
The Director urged the student leaders to uphold the values of responsibility and harmony, stressing that every member of the University community is an image maker of the institution.
Mr Akogun also explained that the Directorate is responsible for managing the public image and information dissemination of the University through its various operational units, including public affairs, broadcasting, marketing, social media and protocol.
Also speaking, the General Manager of the UNILORIN 89.3FM, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma), advised the students to embrace responsible leadership and recognise their roles as ambassadors of the University.
He urged them to lead rather than lord themselves on others, represent their constituents rather than rule over them, and work collectively to protect and strengthen the reputation of the University.
Mr Alooma encouraged students with talents in broadcasting and other creative fields to approach the Directorate with proposals and explore opportunities to participate in its programmes.
He disclosed that the Directorate was willing to provide interested students with opportunities for training, practical experience and certification through its volunteer initiatives.
He added that such opportunities could help students develop their professional skills while contributing to the University’s growth and visibility.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Students’ Union, Mr Adam Mozeed, expressed appreciation to the Director and the Directorate staff for their warm reception.
The President described the visit as the beginning of a new relationship between the Students’ Union and the Directorate, expressing hope that it would lead to sustained cooperation in advancing the interests of the University.
The President assured the Directorate of the willingness of the union to work with relevant university units to promote development, adding that the success of the University was also the success of its students.
Also speaking, the Vice President, Main Campus of the Students’ Union, Adeola Fati, said that the visit was intended to familiarise the new union leadership with the operations of the Directorate, understand the services available to students at the Directorate, and explore areas of collaboration between both bodies.
According to her, the Students’ Union occupies a strategic position as a bridge between the University Management and the student population and could therefore help communicate the activities, policies and achievements of the University to students more effectively.
She explained that the union is interested in identifying opportunities through which students could contribute to the work of the Directorate, particularly in disseminating important information and promoting the image of the University.
