CSSD loses staff

The death has been reported of a Principal Signer at the Centre for Supportive Services for the Deaf (CSSD), University of Ilorin, Mr Yunus Abdulbaki.
Mr Abdulbaki, who was also an Islamic scholar and President of the Idigba Solidarity And Progressive Association (ISPA), Ilorin, passed away penultimate Saturday (September 12, 2026) after a brief illness at the age of 49.
The remains of the deceased were buried on the same day after a Janazah prayer at Baba Dudu Compound, Idigba Quarters, Pakata Area, Ilorin, while the Fidau prayers for the repose of his soul were held last Monday (September 14, 2026) at the same place.
Meanwhile, the Director of CSSD, Prof. Grace Fajonyomi, who spoke with UNILORIN Bulletin on phone last Tuesday (September 15, 2026), said that the death of the Principal Signer was saddening as she said that Mr Abdulbaki died while she was still getting to know and work with him.
The Director, who assumed duties at the CSSD last month, however, said that her interactions with the colleagues of the deceased showed that Mr Abdulbaki was highly respected, loved and hardworking.
The late Mr Abdulbaki, according to Prof. Fajonyomi, would be profoundly missed by all his colleagues and especially the students that he so professionally provided prompt and confidential roles of guidance as an interpreter.
Prof. Fajonyomi, who teaches at the Department of Educational Guidance and Counselling, added that the series of comments made on the students’ platform also showed the level of Mr Abdulbaki’s commitment, dedication to duty and service delivery.
The Director added that she and other staff members of the Centre found more consolation in the fact that the deceased lived and died serving special set of people (students with special needs) with dedication, professionalism and competence, which greatly contributed to actualising the vision and mission of the Centre.
She prayed that God would rest his gentle soul in perfect peace and comfort his immediate and extended family members, friends, colleagues and students.
