Animal Production Dept. takes delivery of renovated facilities

The Department of Animal Production, University of Ilorin, has taken delivery of renovated teaching and research facilities at the Teaching and Research Farm of the institution.
The renovated facilities include the 2,000-capacity layers pen, 500-capacity layers pen, rabbitry, brooding house and piggery, providing improved infrastructure for teaching, practical training, research and livestock production.
The facilities were formally handed over to the Department by the Works Department of the University penultimate Wednesday(August 12, 2026) at the Teaching and Research Farm.
Speaking during the handing-over, the Head of the Department, Prof. Eunice Sola-Ojo, expressed the appreciation of the Department to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the entire University Management for facilitating the renovation and demonstrating their commitment to strengthening agricultural education, practical training and research infrastructure for livestock production in a conducive environment.
The Department also commended the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Israel Ogunlade, for his support and leadership towards the successful completion and delivery of the project.
It noted that the renovated facilities would enhance hands-on training for students, provide improved platforms for undergraduate and postgraduate research, and support the University’s broader mandate of advancing knowledge and innovation in animal production, as well as revenue generation through animal production activities.
The Department expressed optimism that the upgraded facilities would contribute significantly to the development of competent graduates and generate research outputs capable of addressing contemporary challenges in livestock production.
It also appreciated the University Management, the Faculty of Agriculture, the Works Department and all other stakeholders whose efforts contributed to the successful delivery of the renovated facilities.
The Department further pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities while producing healthy livestock and quality animal products for the benefit of the University community.
The ceremony was attended by staff members of the Faculty of Agriculture, and the representatives of the Audit Unit and the contractor.
