The 2003 set of the Department of Economics, University of Ilorin, has donated a photocopier to the Department to enhance administrative efficiency and support the smooth processing of academic and official documents.
Presenting the equipment last Wednesday (September 30,2026) to the Department on behalf of his colleagues, the Business Manager (Retail Banking), First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Surulere Branch, Ilorin, Dr Kudirat Mopelola Malik-Abdulmajeed, said the gesture was their contribution towards easing the day-to-day operations of their alma mater.
Dr Abdulmajeed expressed hope that the equipment would reduce the burden of clerical work in the Department and assist staff in handling official assignments more efficiently.
She said the donation reflected the group’s continued commitment to their alma mater, stressing that their relationship with the University remained strong despite having graduated many years ago.
Also speaking, Mrs Azeezat Folorunsho Ibrahim, who is also the Deputy Registrar at the Office of the Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, said the donation was intended to improve operational efficiency in the Department, particularly in the processing and submission of students’ results and other official documents.
Mrs Ibrahim described the set as a group committed to maintaining the tradition of excellence associated with the Department of Economics, stressing that members of the group remained “pace setters” who were determined to keep their Department at the forefront.
She noted that the presence of their former colleagues and teachers in the Department had also strengthened their connection with the institution and made it easier for them to give back.
She added that the set had no intention of making the photocopier its final contribution, assuring that more support would be extended to the Department in the future.
Responding, the Head of the Department, Prof. Abdulhakeem A. Kilishi, expressed appreciation to the donors for remembering the Department and giving back to the institution.
Prof. Kilishi described the donation as a welcome development, assuring the group that the Department would put the equipment to effective use in the interest of the Department and the University.
He expressed the hope that the donation would mark the beginning of further interventions from the graduates, adding humorously that the Department, “like Oliver Twist,” was expecting more from the set.
