Alumni donate equipment to Economics Dept.

The 2015/2016 set of the alumni of the Department of Economics, University of Ilorin, has donated computer sets to the Department as part of the activities marking the 10th anniversary of their graduation.

The donation, presented last Tuesday (June 23, 2026), was aimed at strengthening the Econometrics Laboratory of the Department and enhancing practical learning for students, particularly in data analysis and econometric studies.

Representing the alumni during the presentation ceremony, Mr Oshatimi Samuel Omoniyi said the contribution was a way of appreciating the Department for the knowledge and academic foundation it provided for him and his colleagues during their student days.

Mr Omoniyi explained that the class decided to celebrate the milestone by giving back to the Department in a meaningful way.

The items donated include four desktop computer systems to increase the number of workstations available for students in the Econometrics Laboratory, as well as one laptop computer designated for the laboratory instructor to support teaching and improve lesson delivery.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Head of the Department, Prof.  A. A. Killishi, Dr M. A. Yaru expressed gratitude to the alumni for what he described as a thoughtful and impactful gesture.

He assured the alumni that the Department would ensure that the equipment are put to effective use.

According to him, the intervention would significantly improve practical teaching sessions and enhance students’ competence in the application of econometric tools required in modern economic analysis.

Students of the Department, who are direct beneficiaries of the donation, also expressed appreciation for the intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the President of the Department of Economics Students Association, Mr Uchenna-Starix Wisdom, described the donation as timely and important, noting that Econometrics is a practical course that relies heavily on technology for effective learning.

The presentation ceremony was witnessed by several lecturers in the Department including Dr M. O. Bello, Dr Obakemi, and Dr F. M. Ajide, among others.
