Akogun urges NUJ, UNILORIN Chapel’s new Exco members to remain united

The Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, has called on the newly elected Executive Committee members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), UNILORIN Chapel, to remain united and uphold the integrity of the University at all times.

Mr Akogun made the call last Monday (April 13, 2026) while addressing members during the Chapel’s monthly congress and bye-election held at the  Boardroom of the Directorate.

At the election, Mrs Jemilat Mahmud Gata emerged as Vice Chairman while Mrs Omotosho Bashirat Ajoke was elected General Secretary. Also elected were Mr Dawodu Bashir, who became the  Treasurer as Mr Mustafa Abubakar emerged as Auditor.

Congratulating the newly elected officers, the Director urged them to work collectively, avoid division, and resist external interference in the internal affairs of the Union.

He stressed the importance of loyalty to the University, describing members as key image-makers of the institution. He said, “Loyalty to the University should be your utmost priority as custodians of its image”.

Mr Akogun reaffirmed his continued support for the Chapel as he expressed optimism that it would achieve greater success for the benefit of its members.

On his part, the General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3FM, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma) also emphasised the  importance of unity among members, saying that it is very essential for the growth and effectiveness of the Chapel.

Mr Alooma also enjoined the leadership of the Chapel to foster cooperation and mutual respect among its members at all times and also be conscious of any advice given by  members including outsiders.

Earlier in his  opening remarks, the Chairman of the NUJ UNILORIN Chapel, Mr Tijani Adewoyin, commended the Director on his consistent support towards the growth and success of the Chapel since assuming office.

He also appreciated the contributions of the General Manager of UNILORIN 89.3FM, Mr Idris Alooma, and other members of the Chapel.

He, therefore, admonished the Executive Committee members to be diligent in the discharge of their duties,which he said requires sacrifice and active participation in both the Chapel and state Council activities.

Mr Adewoyin also reminded members of the importance of prompt payment of dues, describing it as essential for the smooth running of the Union as he said that it is also a prerequisite to accessing  benefits.

In their responses, the newly elected members pledged to move the Chapel forward through inclusive leadership and commitment to excellence.
