The Head of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, University of Ilorin, Dr Kabiru Suleiman Ajao, has commended staff members of the University for patronising the singeing stick developed by his Department.

Dr Ajao gave this commendation last Monday (June 1, 2026) while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin in his office.

The don explained that the Department was delighted that the product was purchased by staff members to the extent that the whole stock was exhausted before the recent Eid-el-Kabir Festival.

Dr Ajao added that it is through patronage of products of the University by its staff members that members of the external public could also be encouraged to follow suit.

He added that the disposition would also encourage Departments and Units to produce various items once they are convinced that such products would be patronised by both the internal and external publics of the University.

Dr Ajao also said that patronage would make Departments and Units of the University to be financially sufficient as the money made from such sales would be ploughed back into the running of such Departments and Units.

He enjoined other Departments to come out with initiatives that would help in solving societal challenges as he said that such efforts would also bring about revenue generation.

The don thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for his support at all times as he also expressed his profound gratitude to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. J. O. Olaoye; and the Director, Centre for Labouratory to Product (LABTOP), University of Ilorin, Prof. Mohammed Jimoh Saka; for their support.
