AbdulMalik commends Danjuma’s linguistic versatility

The National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, has commended the brilliance of a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Transnational Studies, University of Ilorin, Dr Mahmud Danjuma.
Alhaji AbdulMalik gave this commendation last Wednesday (September 16, 2026) in his remarks at the turbanning ceremony of the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, as the Sardauna of Ilorin, at the Emir’s Palace, Ilorin.
The community leader, who is also an alumnus of the University of Ilorin, said that he was impressed with the fantastic performance of Dr Danjuma, who is also the Deputy Director of the Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS), in the course of the discharge of his responsibilities as the main anchor of the event, saying that he has become a pride of the Emirate.
Alhaji AbdulMalik explained that he was particularly captivated by the linguistic versatility of Dr Danjuma who kept him and other members of the audience spellbound with his good command of Yoruba, English, Arabic, Hausa, Nupe, and other languages.
He also commended the University of Ilorin for producing such a distinguished linguist as he expressed conviction that Dr Danjuma would surely go places.
The IEDPU President equally expressed hope that Dr Danjuma’s exceptional erudition would be emulated by the younger ones and reflect positively on the Ilorin Emirate and the society at large.
Dr Danjuma had earlier announced that the Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS) is working towards documenting the accomplishments of the patriarch and members of the AbdulRazaq family of Ilorin as a way of preserving their legacies for the younger and incoming generations. He added that similar efforts would be extended to other prominent families whose members worked for the sustenance of the greatness of the Ilorin Emirate.
The event, which was hosted by the Emir of Ilorin (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari ,CFR; was attended by many dignitaries from all over Nigeria and beyond, including the Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kassim Shettima, several state governors, the Emir of Zaria, Ambassador Nuhu Bamali; the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Kuliya of Ilorin, Prof. Yusuf Ola-Olu Ali, SAN; the Permanent Secretary, Federal Civil Service Commission, Dr Shuaib Lamido Belgore; the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. Shaykh Luqman Alade Jimoh; the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Prof. Haruna Musa, who was represented by Prof. Aminu El-Gambari of the University’s Department of Islamic Studies and Sharia; a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR; the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Prof. Ibrahim Abdulganiyu Jawondo; and a former Head of the Department of Religions, University of Ilorin, Prof. Abubakir Imam Ali-Agan; among several others from far and near.
