Egbewole elected into IACL EXCO

In another fascinating recognition of his professional worth, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has been elected into the Executive Council of the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL). The election was one of the major highlights of the just-concluded World Congress of Constitutional Lawyers held in Bogotá, Colombia.
This was disclosed in a statement, dated August 8, 2026, by the Secretary-General and Treasurer of the Association, Prof. Francesco Biagi, a copy of which was made available to UNILORIN Bulletin.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also a Member of the Nigerian Body of Benchers, would hold the position from 2026 to 2030.
In his reaction to the development, a former Head of the Department of Jurisprudence and International Law, University of Ilorin, Prof. Azubuike Onuora-Oguno, described the election as a reflection of Prof. Egbewole’s longstanding contributions to Constitutional Law scholarship and his unwavering commitment to advancing constitutional jurisprudence through robust scholarship.
He added that the election was a testament to the confidence that the international constitutional law community has placed in the leadership and vision of Prof. Egbewole.
Prof. Onuora-Oguno, who is also a specialist in International Human Rights Laws, said that the Vice Chancellor has consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication to strengthening constitutional discourse across Africa and beyond.
He added that recently, his leadership in successfully hosting the ANCL Biennial Congress at the University of Ilorin provided an important platform for scholarly engagement, collaboration, and the advancement of constitutional governance on the continent.
He, therefore, congratulated the Vice Chancellor on the remarkable achievement and wished him every success as he assumes the important international responsibility.
