You must make UNILORIN TV more impactful, Egbewole tasks UTMB

A call has gone to the Chairman and members of the UNILORIN Television Management Board (UTMB) to ensure a swift repositioning of the outfit to facilitate effective service delivery.
This call was made last Monday (June 29, 2026) by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, while addressing the Board members at a meeting the University management held with them in his office.
Prof. Egbewole, who explained that the new Board, which consists of versatile media professionals and academics, was carefully constituted in order to ensure fantastic results from the station.
The Vice Chancellor said that the Board must also ensure that the number of viewers who regularly tune to the station witness remarkable increase, adding that every effort must be made to ensure that the station becomes more visible in order to enhance the visibility of the University among its relevant stakeholders.
Prof. Egbewole urged the Board to do whatever it could to not only find out what has been wrong with the station but also do whatever is right for it to become a must watch for both the internal and external publics of the University.
He added that the Board must ensure that it delivers on its mandates before filing complaints, saying that the production of the expected results would encourage the Administration to offer it more support.
The Vice Chancellor urged the UTMB to ensure that the station effectively collaborates with other media outlets of the University, such as the UNILORIN Bulletin, UNILORIN FM radio and the Social Media platforms, to ensure maximum impact on the image of the University. He said, ‘‘We are not competitors but collaborators and we should not be working at cross purposes’’.
Prof. Egbewole commended the previous management team headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, for its pioneering efforts.
Also speaking, the Director of the Academic Planning Unit, University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulRasheed Abiodun Adeoye, advised the Board to ensure that the programmes of the station are culturally relevant as he also advised the Board members on programme and content strategies.
He added that the station must work on what would appeal to its target audience and ensure that the station is also well marketed.
Responding, the Chairman of the Board, Prof. S. O. Ikibe, thanked the Vice Chancellor for appointing him and his colleagues on the Board.
He informed the University Administration that the Board has started making contacts here and there that would ensure that the television station becomes the darling of members of the University community and the public at large.
He assured that the Board would give a very good of itself in excelling in the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) enumerated by the Vice Chancellor by or before September, 2026 as envisaged by the Vice Chancellor.
Other members of the Board that attended the meeting were the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun; a lecturer at the Department of Educational Technology, Dr M. A. Aderoju; a lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Mrs Hameedat Oladimeji; the Deputy Editor of UNILORIN Bulletin, Mr Abubakar Imam and Mr M. T. Adua of the Human Resources Unit.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Olalere Adeyemi; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal and the Director of COMSIT, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh. as well as the Head of UNILORIN TV, Miss Precious Okeowo, among others.
