Egbewole commends PFA students, celebrates women’s resilience

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has lauded students of the Department of the Performing and Film Arts(PFA) for their exceptional creativity, talents and dedication, describing their stage performances as testaments to the quality of training and excellence for which the University is renowned.
Prof. Egbewole stated this last Thursday (June 4, 2026) at the Old Faculty of Arts Drama Village, University of Ilorin, after witnessing a theatrical performance staged by students of the Department of Performing Arts, titled “Aminatu”.
The Vice Chancellor, commended the Department for consistently sustaining a culture of excellence and continuously improving the quality of its productions.
He congratulated the Department on what he described as another successful session of outstanding performances, noting that the students had once again demonstrated remarkable artistic strength and professionalism.
The Vice Chancellor observed that the play underscored the capacity of women to excel in every sphere of human endeavour, stressing that the performance effectively conveyed the message that women possess the ability to achieve any goal they set for themselves. He added that the lead character had shown that determination, focus and perseverance remain essential ingredients for success.
Prof. Egbewole further noted that the production highlighted the importance of resilience and self-belief in overcoming challenges and realising one’s aspirations. He remarked that beyond its entertainment value, the play served as a source of inspiration, particularly for young women seeking to break barriers and make meaningful contributions to society.
The legal luminary noted that the performers displayed dedication and professionalism, while also appreciating the efforts of their supervisor, parents and the production crew for contributing to the success of the programme. He wished the students greater accomplishments in their future endeavours and encouraged them to continue using their talents to promote positive values and societal development.
A timeless symbol of courage and leadership, the stage came alive with the historical drama that celebrates the extraordinary life and achievements of the legendary Hausa warrior-queen, Aminatu of the ancient Zazzau Kingdom. The play portrays her remarkable journey to the throne, highlighting her determination, resilience and unwavering commitment to the growth and prosperity of her people despite prevailing societal barriers.
Through captivating performances, the production showcases Aminatu’s military exploits, her defiance of gender prejudice and her transformation of Zazzau into a formidable kingdom. The drama presents the iconic queen as a symbol of courage, visionary leadership and female empowerment, reminding the audience of her enduring legacy as one of Africa’s most celebrated heroines whose impact continues to resonate across generations.
