The Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University (MKU), Ilorin, has commended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on the technical support, guidance and institutional cooperation he extended to the young University, which just secured accreditation for 13 academic programmes from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
This commendation was made penultimate Monday (May 3, 2026) by the MKU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, who acknowledged Prof. Egbewole and other Vice Chancellors within the KU8+ Consortium for their relentless support.
According to him, the University, which received its provisional operational licence in June 2023, commenced academic activities in December, 2023 after successfully presenting 15 programmes for resource verification in October 2023.
Prof. Jimoh explained that 13 programmes were presented for accreditation in November 2025. Mathematics and Statistics were excluded due to the absence of students in the programmes at the time.
The Vice Chancellor disclosed that all the 13 programmes passed the accreditation exercise, representing 100 per cent success rate.
The accredited programmes are B.A. Arabic Language, B.A. English, B.A. History and International Studies, B.A. Islamic Studies, B.Sc. Accounting, B.Sc. Business Administration, B.Sc. Economics, B.Sc. Chemistry, B.Sc. Physics with Electronics, B.Sc. Plant Science and Biotechnology, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Cybersecurity, and B.Sc. Software Engineering.
Prof. Jimoh said the accreditation confirmed that the programmes met national academic standards in curriculum quality, staffing, infrastructure adequacy and institutional governance, adding that the achievement had removed all barriers to the mobilisation of graduates for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Vice Chancellor noted that among universities licensed in the same period in 2023, the University remains the only institution to have achieved programme accreditation, describing the development as a strong indication of the quality assurance and institutional excellence.
Prof. Jimoh also expressed appreciation to the Chancellor of the University and Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; the visitor and Khaleefatul-Adabiyeen, Sheikh Abdulkadir Adisa Kamaludeen Al-Adaby; the Chairman, Board of Trustees and National President of the Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria, Sulaiman Layiwola Afolabi; and the Pioneer Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR, NPOM, for their support towards the advancement of the institution.
He said the University is steadily evolving into a centre of academic excellence, digital innovation, research, entrepreneurship and value-driven education rooted in Islamic teachings and moral discipline.
According to him, plans are underway to introduce postgraduate programmes, strengthen international collaborations, improve research output and deepen community engagement initiatives.
Prof. Jimoh described the institution as a continuation of the educational legacy of Shaykh Muhammad Kamaldeen Habeebullah Musa Al-Adaby, the founder of the Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria and first Grand Mufti of Ilorin. He noted that the University represents a modern expression of a historic movement dedicated to scholarship, service and the integration of Islamic and Western education.
