Why UNILORIN JUPEB records improved enrolment –Adam
By Isaac Lewu
The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB), Foundation School, University of Ilorin, has recorded a significant increase in student enrolment, rising from just over 230 as at 2023 to 853 students in the ongoing 2025/2026 session.
The Director of the JUPEB Foundation School, Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam, disclosed this while speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin last Thursday (February 26, 2026) in his office.
Prof. Adam attributed the growth to improved administrative capacities, academic stability and sustained support from the University Management.
According to him, when he assumed office, the student population was slightly above 230, but the figure has since risen to 853, reflecting renewed confidence in the programme.
Prof. Adam, who is a former Dean of the Faculty of Law, explained that the School is presently operating a hybrid test mode, combining Paper-Based Tests (PBT) with Computer-Based Tests (CBT) as part of efforts to prepare students adequately for their final examinations, which will be conducted fully in CBT format.
The Professor of Business Law noted that the current use of paper-based examinations is intentional, as it serves as a transitional strategy to make students more conversant with computer-based testing.
He, however, appealed to the University management for the use of the CBT Centre at the permanent site for a two-week period during the forthcoming final examinations.
The Director explained that securing the facility would ensure seamless conduct of the examinations and accommodate the large number of candidates at once, rather than in batches, which might create room for leakages as students can commit some of the questions into memory and share such with their colleagues.
He said that hosting the examinations at the main-campus would ease transportation challenges among students and enhance operational efficiency, especially given the hybrid mode currently in use.
Prof. Adam also disclosed that the JUPEB syllabus has been reviewed to align with contemporary academic standards and institutional goals.
He stated that the revised syllabus would take effect in the next academic session, while the current cohort will complete its programme under the existing structure.
Prof. Adam commended the University management on its consistent support for the programme and expressed optimism that the Centre would receive the necessary assistance to sustain its growth and maintain high academic standards.
