IEDPU rallies more support for CILS
By Abubakar Imam
The National President of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, has, again, appealed to the people of Ilorin Emirate and their friends to offer more support to the Centre for Ilorin Studies (CILS), University of Ilorin, for the Centre to deliver on its mandates.
Alhaji Abdulmalik made this appeal last Wednesday (January 28, 2026) while presenting some materials shared at the last edition of the annual conference of the Union to the Director of the Centre, Prof. Issa Olarongbe Sanusi, in his office.
The President, who was represented by the immediate past National Secretary of the Union, Mr Abubakar Imam, said that the CILS deserves the support of all to become a centre of attraction for all those who desire to know one thing or the other about the Ilorin Emirate.
Alhaji Abdulmalik said that the Centre deserves to have sufficient Ilorin-related materials, particularly since it is located within Ilorin where such are in abundance.
He assured the Director that the Union, as the Chief Marketer of the community, would continue to canvass support for the Centre from stakeholders.
Alhaji Abdulmalik, who is a retired Assistant Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, encouraged the Centre to reserve a segment of its library for materials related to the Union. He said that such an arrangement would encourage members to donate past copies of the Union’s annual calendar and other materials in their possession to the Centre.
Responding, Prof. Sanusi thanked the IEDPU for always showing positive and fraternal interest in the growth and survival of the Centre.
He recalled that the Union has not only made funds available to the Centre in the past but has also offered moral support to the Centre over the years.
The Director said that the Centre would welcome written documents including old letters, minutes of community development associations and groups’s meetings as well as archival pictures and similar materials.
He said that donors of such materials would not only be supporting the Centre but also immortalising themselves as their names and other relevant particulars would be written on such items, which would outlive them.
Prof. Sanusi assured the IEDPU that the materials donated by the Union and others will be properly preserved for the benefit of researchers who patronise the Centre from all over Nigeria and beyond.
