The Ag. Dean of Students Affairs, University of Ilorin, Dr Alex Akanmu, has warned students of the institution against engaging in any form of examination malpractice, stressing that offenders risk expulsion from the University.
Dr Akanmu gave the warning last Wednesday (January 21, 2026) while speaking at a two-day sensitisation programme organised by the Faculty of Arts Students Association (FASA), University of Ilorin chapter, held at the Arts Lecture Theatre.
The Dean, who is also the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilorin chapter, charged students to maintain discipline before and during examinations to avoid falling victim to examination malpractice.
According to him, the University operates strict rules and regulations guiding students’ conduct, which are different from those obtainable at the secondary school level.
“No excuse, no matter how convincing your story may be; once you are caught, you are gone,” he warned.
Dr Akanmu advised fresh students to master their matriculation numbers, describing them as unique identification numbers. He also urged them to ensure that all their courses are duly registered for.
He further cautioned students against drug use and abuse, unguided friendships and indecent dressing, while urging them to study the students’ handbook to better understand the University’s regulations.
The Dean reminded the students to always remember their primary assignment of knowledge acquisition and encouraged them to be good ambassadors of their respective families and the University.
He commended the organisers of the sensitisation programme, describing the event as a timely avenue to remind students of their responsibilities within the University community.
