The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), University of Ilorin Chapel, Mr Tijani Adekola Adewoyin, has advised members of the institution’s chapter of the Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ) to uphold the code of conduct of journalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Mr Adewoyin gave this advice last Thursday ( December 4, 2025) while addressing the Executive members of the UNILORIN UCJ during their visit to the Chapel Secretariat at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs.
The UNILORIN NUJ Chairman explained that journalists are the fourth estate of the realm who play key roles in the existence of any society through information, education, and entertainment. He emphasised that while doing this, it is expected of them to always balance their reports with factual information and abide by the ethics of the profession in order to remain relevant among their counterparts.
The Chairman encouraged them to pursue professional qualifications in the field of journalism after their first degree programme to enable them operate responsibly.
He also counselled them to focus on their studies and avoid anything that might disrupt their academic programmes.
The President of the UCJ, Miss Waleeyah Ayomide Ambali, said the essence of the visit was to identify areas where the two bodies can collaborate.
Miss Ambali explained that the UNILORIN UCJ will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next year, which she described as a milestone achievement and worthy of celebration as he called for the cooperation of the UNILORIN NUJĀ to ensure the success of the event.
