UNILORIN commissions NASRDA/DSA space research centre

The University of Ilorin National Space Research and Development Agency/Defence Space Administration (NASRDA/DSA) Research Centre, has been commissioned, marking a major step forward in the institution’s commitment to innovation, scientific advancement, and national development.

The building, which was facilitated by AVM Lanre Ibrahim Olohuntoyin (rtd), was among the projects commissioned to mark the Golden Jubilee of the University  penultimate Tuesday (November 25, 2025).

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described the centre as a significant milestone that reinforces the position of the University as a hub for cutting-edge research. He noted that the NASRDA/DSA Centre will enhance training, data analysis, satellite technology, and space-related studies across various disciplines.

He added that the partnership with the National Space Research and Development Agency and the Defence Space Administration demonstrates the University’s commitment to building capacity in national security, environmental monitoring, communication technology, and climate research.

While appreciating the donors, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Joshua Olaoye, represented by Prof. M. O. Sunmonu, appreciated all partners who contributed to the realisation of the project, expressing confidence that the Centre would become one of the University’s most impactful research hubs in the coming years.

The newly established Centre is expected to support research, foster collaborations with global space agencies, and provide essential data for agriculture, security, climate change, and disaster management.
