Egbewole, others attend U6+ Banjul Conference

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has led a delegation of senior academic staff of the University to the 9th Conference of the U6+ Consortium of African Universities. The one week intellectually-engaging event was held in Banjul, the capital city of the Republic of The Gambia, between Tuesday, September 23 and Friday, September 26, 2025.
The Conference, which was themed “Celebrating Achievements, Addressing Challenges and Envisioning Brighter Future for Africa”, was also attended by several scholars from all over Africa and beyond including the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede,CON and a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Musibau Adewumi Akanji; as well as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Temidayo Oladiji.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Egbewole, charged African universities to make deliberate efforts towards deepening their cooperation, saying that it is only through purposeful and proper networking that African universities can enhance their service delivery capacities and become more respected at the global level.
Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Vice President (West Africa) of the Association of African Universities (AAU), said that the University of Ilorin would continue to explore meaningful partnership and cooperation with other universities across Africa and beyond for it to achieve its aspirations.
In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin, the Director of the Centre for International Education, Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, who was also on the delegation, described the participation of the University of Ilorin at the conference as hugely successful.
He explained that the conference was an opportunity for him and other members of the delegation to update their skills and knowledge as it also provided them with the privilege to interact with their colleagues from other African universities who attended the conference.
Prof. Onireti, who teaches in the Department of Arabic, thanked the Vice Chancellor for affording him and his colleagues the opportunity to participate in the one-week intellectual outing.
Other members of the University of Ilorin’s delegation to the Conference included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; and the Director, COMSIT, Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh.
Also on the delegation were the Director of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning, Prof. Modinah A. O. Abdulraheem; the Editor-in-Chief of U6+ Journal,Prof. Hussein Okoro and a Deputy Director at the Centre for International Education, Dr Bilqis Lawal, among others.
