A Principal Partner at Iwelabi Consulting Limited, Mr Qudus Adebowale Balogun, has called on accounting students at the University of Ilorin to embrace digital literacy in order to be relevant in the rapidly evolving financial landscape.
Mr Balogun made this call last Monday (May 19, 2025) while speaking at the third edition of The Accounting Summit Ilorin (TASI 3.0).
The event, which was themed “The Digital Accountant: Leveraging Technology for Growth and Innovation”, was organised by the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (NUASA), University of Ilorin chapter at the University Auditorium.
Mr Balogun, who was the guest speaker at the event, emphasised the need to move beyond traditional accounting methods.
He encouraged students to adapt to evolving technological changes in the industry rather than holding on to outdated practices. “It is important to spend five hours learning how to complete a task in 30 minutes, rather than doing the same task inefficiently for two hours every day,” he said.
He further advised students to prioritise learning tools and technologies that will remain useful in the future, rather than investing time in obsolete practices.
Mr Balogun dismissed concerns over the cost of adopting new technology, saying the long-term benefits outweigh the initial investment.
Also speaking, the Auditor- General of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Olajide, who was represented by Mr Yakub Abdulrahman, commended NUASA for organising the summit.
He urged students to enhance their qualifications by registering with professional bodies such as ICAN and ANAN, and to become proficient in computer skills so as to ease their professional responsibilities.
In her comments, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Shade Omoniyi, represented by Mr Yusuf La-Kadri, encouraged students to become qualified accountants and to integrate digital skills into their academic and professional development.
Speaking earlier, the NUASA President, Mr Faaiz Kayode AbdulRaheem, expressed gratitude to God as he acknowledged the support of lecturers and fellow students for making the programme a success.
The summit featured a range of activities, including award presentations, quiz and debate contests.

Olaniyi, Dr Aliu Olanrewaju, the Chairman of Ilorin District and Society Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria(ICAN), Alhaji T. T.
