UNILORIN Chief Imam charges Nigerians to fear Allah
As the Muslim faithful worldwide progress with the Ramadan fast, the Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Nasir Abdulsalam, has charged leaders and followers at all levels to have the fear of Allah in order to have a better society.
Prof. Abdulsalam made this call while featuring on a popular Yoruba programme, “Oro to n lo,” on UNILORIN FM radio, last Tuesday (March 18, 2025). The programme was anchored by the General Manager of the station, Mr Idris Alooma.
The Chief Imam pointed out that God does not make mistakes in choosing leaders, and as such, leaders and followers must always act according to the will of Almighty Allah. He noted that during Ramadan, Muslims should increase their reading of the Holy Quran, observe the five daily prayers, and engage in other acts of worship such as alms-giving. These acts, he said, would attract bountiful blessings from Allah.
Prof. Abdulsalam counselled that good virtues should not be limited to the Ramadan period alone, as God expects Muslims to worship Him and do good always. He also reminded Muslims that the last 10 days of Ramadan are the Itikaf period, during which those who wish to observe it must follow due process and take permission from their workplaces or plan their leave accordingly. He emphasised that Islam teaches Muslims how to handle all issues in life.
The cleric-don also charged students to face their studies and be God-fearing, while urging all UNILORIN staff members to be God-fearing, dedicated to their work, and loyal to the system. He noted that observing Ramadan fast does not make one lazy at work or absent, saying that it rather encourages diligence and commitment.
In his final remarks, Prof. Abdulsalam advised kidnappers, terrorists, ritualists, and other evil-doers to use the period of Ramadan and the Christian Lent to seek the face of God, stop their nefarious activities, and turn a new leaf. He prayed that Allah would guide and forgive them, and grant them the strength to change their ways.
