The Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, has taken delivery of the newly constructed Moot Court, Professorial Suites, and Law Library.
The buildings, which are the first on campus to incorporate renewable energy technology, were conceived to significantly reduce electricity costs, were officially handed over to the Faculty last Tuesday (January 21, 2025) by the contractors. The Moot Court and Law Library are also equipped with CCTV cameras.
Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin on the sidelines of the handover ceremony, the Director of the Physical Planning Unit, Mr Toyin Jimoh, said that the projects are a testament to the commitment of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, to the growth of the University.
Commending the Vision 1: 10: 500 initiative of the Vice Chancellor, Mr Jimoh described it as a strategic move to elevate the Institution’s educational standards to new heights.
The PPU Director commended the contractors for their adherence to specifications and quality finishes, and urged users of the facilities to ensure their adequate maintenance.
He also advised them to report any damages within the next six months in order to ensure that repairs are carried out at no additional cost.
In her own remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Nimah Modupe AbdulRaheem, expressed gratitude to the University Management for the completion of the facility.
She said, “This building is the best so far, and we are delighted it is dedicated to the Faculty of Law. It will advance legal education not just at UNILORIN but across Nigeria.”
She also appreciated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, and the entire Management Team for giving the Faculty the edifice, which she said will assist the Law lecturers in contributing their quota.
Prof. AbdulRaheem also assured the University Management that the building would be optimally utilised.
She said that the Moot Court, Professorial Suites, and Library mark a significant milestone in the University’s pursuit of excellence, aligning with the goals of Vision 1: 10: 500 to create a world-class institution.
In his remarks, the Head of the Fire Service Unit, Mr Ibrahim Olanrewaju AbdulRasaq, noted that the fire safety measures in the new buildings were satisfactory, with only three minor adjustments required.
He urged users to always switch off electrical appliances before leaving their offices and familiarise themselves with fire extinguisher use.
