2006 Economics alumni donate desktop computers to Department

The 2006 set of alumni of the Department of Economics, University of Ilorin, has donated 15 desktop computers to the Department as part of activities marking their 20th graduation anniversary.

The items were presented penultimate Friday, (May 29, 2026) to the Head of the Department, Prof. Abdullahi Kilishi, in his office.

Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole,SAN, who was represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. A.Y. Muhammed, commended the alumni for the gesture, describing it as a remarkable contribution that would not be forgotten.

“I am proud of you. You were once students here, and today you have returned to give back to your alma mater. Continue with this good gesture,” he said.

Prof. Egbewole also urged other alumni groups to emulate the initiative, noting that such contributions would inspire future sets and promote development within the institution.

He further prayed for the continued success and prosperity of the alumni in all their endeavours.

In his remarks, the Head of the Department, Prof. Abdullahi Kilishi, described the donation as both surprising and commendable. He assured the donors that the computers would be put to proper use.

Prof. Kilishi noted that computers are essential tools in the field of Economics, adding that the donation would greatly support teaching, learning and research activities within the Department.

The don also appreciated the alumni for remembering their Department and encouraged other graduates of the University not to forget their alma mater.

Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Mrs Omobolanle Afolabi explained that the donation was a token of appreciation from the 2006 set as they celebrated their 20th anniversary of their graduation.

She said the group remains connected and committed to contributing more to the growth and development of the Department in the future.

“We believe this is just a token,and by the grace of God, we hope to do more,” she assured.
