2001 Engineering alumni donate N5 million water project

The 2001 set of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Ilorin, has donated a N5 million sustainable water supply project to the institution as part of its contribution to the 50th Anniversary activities of the University.
The project was commissioned last Monday (August 3, 2026) on behalf of the President of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Prof. Kilani, by its General Secretary, Dr Barakat Raji.
Speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Project Committee, Mr Mayowa David Abiodun, the Class Representative, Dr Morakinyo Wasiu Kareeem, said the legacy project was conceived as the 2001 Engineering Graduates’ contribution to the University’s golden jubilee celebration.
He described the project as a symbol of gratitude to the institution that nurtured them academically and professionally, noting that members of the class considered it both a privilege and a responsibility to give back to their alma mater after 25 years.
According to him, the idea for the project emerged from the collective resolve of the alumni to execute a practical and sustainable intervention that would benefit generations of students, staff, researchers, and visitors. After considering several options, the class unanimously settled for a water supply project because of the indispensable role of water in teaching, research, sanitation, and the smooth operation of Engineering laboratories and workshops.
Dr Kareem disclosed that the project was funded entirely through voluntary contributions from members of the 2001 Engineering graduates.
He added that the facility underwent comprehensive inspection and operational testing before commissioning and was certified fully ready for immediate use.
He expressed appreciation to members of the 2001 Engineering graduates for their financial support, unity, and commitment, describing the successful completion of the project as a demonstration of what can be achieved through collective purpose and enduring love for their alma mater.
He also acknowledged the support of the University Management, the Dean and leadership of the University of Ilorin Alumni Association, the Faculty Representative on Alumni Matters, contractors, artisans, and technical personnel whose contributions ensured the successful execution of the project.
Receiving the project on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Joshua Olanrewaju Olaoye, commended the donors for their foresight, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the development of their alma mater.
He described the donation as a remarkable demonstration of alumni loyalty and a worthy legacy that would enhance teaching, learning, research, and innovation within the Faculty.
Also in attendance are members of the UNILORIN Alumni led by Deputy Registrar Alumni office, Mr Musbau Yusuf.
