…..Egbewole expresses shock

The death has been announced of a renowned Islamic scholar and Director, Linguistic Immersion Centre, University of Ilorin, Prof. Badmas Olanrewaju Yusuf.
Prof. Yusuf, who joined the services of the University in 1991, died last Friday (January 30, 2026) after a brief illness at the age of 69. His remains were buried last Saturday (January 31, 2026) after a Janazah prayer led by the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Shaykh Abdullahi AbdulHameed at his ancestral home, Maimasa Compound, Oja-Gboro, Ilorin.
A distinguished Scholar of Islamic Studies, cleric, and versatile community leader, Prof. Yusuf also served as the Dean of the Postgraduate School. Prof. Yusuf, who was an expert in Quranic Studies, also served as the Chairman of the Ilorin Emirate Staff Association (IESA), University of Ilorin.
The late scholar, who served as the Chairman of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board from 1992 to 1995, was also a Provost of the Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin and erstwhile Commissioner at the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed shock and profound sadness on the death of the cleric-don. In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole said that the management, staff and students of the University are saddened by the demise of Prof. Yusuf.
He described the deceased as a hardworking and exemplary academic and administrator who made his marks in the services of the University, Islam and humanity at large.
Prof. Egbewole sympathised with the relations, friends, colleagues, students and mentees of the renowned scholar as he urged them to take solace in the fact that he lived a good life worthy of emulation.
The Vice Chancellor prayed to Allah to overlook the shortcomings of Prof. Yusuf and reward his good deeds with Aljanat Fridaous.
