You make us better by far, Egbewole tells IESA

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the quality of service delivery of staff members of the University from the institution’s host community, saying that indigenes of Ilorin Emirate working at the University also worked with others to make the University far better than its peers.

Prof. Egbewole stated this penultimate Sunday (March 1, 2026) while speaking at the 16th edition of the annual Ramadan programme of the Ilorin Emirate Staff Association(IESA), University of Ilorin, at the institution’s mini-campus.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Mukhtar Adeiza Etudaiye, thanked members of the IESA for their loyalty and cooperation with the successive management of the University.

Prof. Egbewole said that the University wouldn’t have been better by far without the support of the members of the IESA who are working assiduously to ensure that the service delivery capacities of the University are greatly enhanced and thereby promoting the good image of the University.

The Vice Chancellor also thanked members of the Association who are holding key positions in the University for their efforts as he expressed the hope that his administration would continue to enjoy the prayers and support of IESA members in its mission of leaving the University better than he met it.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Association, Prof. Ibrahim Kayode Adam, said that the programme was anchored on the need to promote hardwork and patriotism among members and their friends from other socio-cultural backgrounds.

Prof. Adam, who is also the Director, Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB)Foundation School, University of Ilorin, assured the University that members of the Association would continue to put up fascinating behaviours and serve as good ambassadors of the University’s host community within and outside the University.

The two guest speakers at the event, Dr Abdulsalam Ambali of the Department of Arabic and Transnational Studies and Mr Lukman Muktair Isale-Koto of the Bursary Department, encouraged members of the Association to be disciplined and focused at all times.

The two scholars reminded their listeners of the need to be diligent and prioritise integrity at all times, saying that these qualities are not only needed for career progression but also divinely directed.

The event, which was jointly presided-over by the Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Education Board, Prof. Raheem Shehu Adaramaja, and the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Heathcare Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, was attended by several dignitaries including the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, who was represented by the Balogun Alanamu of Ilorin, Dr Usman Abubakar Jos; the Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the sixth and ninth Vice Chancellors of the University, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR, and Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON, respectively and the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin,Prof. Medinat Folorunso Salman, who was represented by the wife of the ninth Vice Chancellor, Prof. Hassanat Taiwo Ambali.

Others were the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik; the University Librarian, University of Ilorin, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa; a former University Librarian, Prof. Abdulwahab Olanrewaju Issa; the Director, Physical Planning Unit, Mr AbdulRahman Toyin Jimoh, a Deputy Director, Academic Planning Unit, Mr AbdulRasheed Gidado Dauda; the Provost, College of Health Sciences, Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. Salihu Moyosore Ajao; the Director, Central Research Laboratory, University of Ilorin and Wakilin Likitochi of Ilorin, Prof. Ibraheem Adeola Katibi and the Director, Technical and Entrepreneurship Centre, University of Ilorin, Prof. Usman Adebimpe Raheem; the Director of Sports, University of Ilorin, Prof. Tajudeen Olanrewaju Ibraheem as well as the National Financial Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Mr Muhammad Jimoh Akanbi, among several others.
