The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has assured the new Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Lateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, of the support of the management and staff of the nation’s most acclaimed University as he settles down for the business of administering the faith-based ivory tower.
Prof. Egbewole gave this assurance penultimate Sunday (July 20, 2025) while speaking at a special luncheon/prayer organised in honour of Prof. Oladimeji by an Ilorin-based prominent legal practitioner, Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, at his Adewole Housing Estate Residence, Ilorin.
The Vice Chancellor, who was the Chairman of the occasion, said that the University of Ilorin would continue to monitor the progress of all its alumni wherever they are, adding that the University would not stop to offer necessary support for them to excel whenever such is required.
Prof. Egbewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Etudaiye, described Prof. Oladimeji as a “multiple alumnus” of the University of Ilorin who not only earned all his academic credentials at the University but has also remained a committed member of the University’s Alumni Association.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), urged Prof. Oladimeji to give his new role all he is endowed with in order to justify his appointment and take the University to greater heights.
Prof. Egbewole, who commended Prof. Oladimeji on being a shining example among the UNILORIN alumni and the society at large, added that his alma mater expected him to do well for him to be worthy of being celebrated at the end of his tenure.
In his lecture at the event, a former Deputy Chief Imam of the University of Ilorin, Dr Yusuf Kolawole Jimoh, urged Prof. Oladimeji to see his new position as a challenge.
Dr Jimoh urged the new Vice Chancellor to be mindful of the quality of the legacy he would leave behind as he said that he must do well for him to be a pride to his family, his alma mater and his community, particularly as he is an expert in Islamic Studies who must serve with distinction and exemplary manner.
The event was attended by several dignitaries from far and near including a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Musibau Akanji; a former Vice Chancellor of Summit University, Offa, Prof. Hussein O. Bukoye Oloyede; the founder of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Chief AbdulRaheem Oladimeji, OFR; the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Muslim Community, Prof. Mudathir Olalere Yusuf; and the Director, Ilorin Business School (IBS), Prof. Ibrahim Kadir.
Also in attendance were the Head of the Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin, Prof. Azizat Amoloye-Adebayo; the Deputy Registrar, Vice Chancellor’s Office, Mrs Azeezat Ibrahim; the Grand Kadi of Kwara State Court of Appeal, Ilorin, Justice Abdulateef Kamaldeen; and the National President of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Alhaji Abdulmumini Ayo Abdulmalik, among others.
