VC promises to upgrade UNILORIN Zoo

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has promised to upgrade the facilities at the Unilorin Zoological Garden and increase the varieties of its attractive animals through the Unilorin Holdings.

Prof. Egbewole made this promise last Thursday (December 26, 2024) while speaking at the maiden Family Fun Fair organised by the Zoological Garden to provide a fun-filled experience for families and children on Boxing Day.

The Vice Chancellor commended the management of the UNILORIN Zoological Garden on organising the fun fair, which, he said, was aimed at connecting the University with the community.

  Prof. Egbewole praised the event for promoting community engagement, relaxation, and entertainment beyond academics. He emphasised the importance of having good facilities and designing programmes to attract members of the community, particularly children.   

     Prof. A.T. Ande of the Department of Zoology, Faculty of Life Sciences, delivered a lecture highlighting the significance of animals and the need to recognise and care for them.

The don commended the Vice Chancellor on his support for the Zoo, noting that  UNILORIN  Zoo is a unique centre of attraction in Kwara State and beyond.

The General Manager of Unilorin Zoo, Mr. Yusuf Olatunji Kareem, appreciated the attendees and encouraged them to visit the zoo regularly for educational and entertainment purposes. The zoo features various facilities, including a suspended bridge, playing ground, and a variety of animals.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Registrar, Mr. Mansur Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr. Abiodun Lawal; the Director of Health Services, Dr. Abdulrasheed Odunola; and the Acting Director of Legal Services, Mrs. R.R. Olookoba, among others.
