The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has pledged the full support of the University for the newly inaugurated Nigerian Bar Association Women’s Forum (NBAWF), a vital arm of the NBA dedicated to advancing the interests of female legal professionals to achieve their set goals.
Prof. Egbewole gave this assurance last Friday (February 28, 2025) when he received members of the NBAWF Kwara team who visited him in his office.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the NBA Women Forum for taking the initiative to visit the University to share its objectives, expressing the University’s willingness to collaborate with the Forum, particularly in initiatives aimed at empowering women in the legal profession.
Prof. Egbewole, who is a renowned scholar of Jurisprudence and International Law, explained the importance of empowering women as a critical factor in national development, lauding the NBA for establishing a platform specifically focused on the advancement of women in the legal field.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria canvassed a synergy between the NBA Women’s Forum and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), noting that while both organisations may have different approaches, their ultimate goal remains the same.
Reaffirming his personal and institutional commitment, Prof. Egbewole assured the forum of unrestricted access to the University for any collaborative initiative.
Earlier in her remarks, the NBAWF Kwara Team Lead, Mrs Iwalola Bello, stated that the primary objective for initiating the visit was to introduce members of the NBAWF to the University Management and to solicit the support of the Vice-Chancellor in ensuring its success in the state.
“The Vice Chancellor is one of us; he is our father in the legal profession and a patron of the NBA. That is why we felt that for the NBA Women Forum to take off successfully in Kwara State, it was essential to seek his guidance and support,” Mrs Bello said.
She said that the core mandate of the NBA Women Forum focuses on promoting the welfare and professional development of female lawyers, noting that the Forum was established as part of the national body of the NBA to address the unique challenges faced by women in the legal profession.
Joining the Vice Chancellor to receive the NBA Women Forum were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Muhtar Adeiza Etudaiye; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; and the University Librarian, Prof. Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa.
With Mrs Bello on the NBA Women Forum’s entourage were the Kwara State Facilitator, Mrs Balikis Ola Akande; the Secretary, Mrs Halimat Akanbi Jatto; the Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Janet Babalola; and a member, Mrs Sulyman Muslimat.
