The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has congratulated members of the institution’s Christian community and their counterparts across the world on the occasion of this year’s Christmas celebrations.
In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, on Christmas eve, the Vice Chancellor said the occasion called for merriment and gratitude to God Almighty for His boundless mercies on all.
Describing Christmas as a celebration of the timelessness and extraordinariness of the phenomenon, which Jesus Christ symbolises, Prof. Egbewole said that in the spirit of the season, Christians must endeavour to be Christlike in the totality of their lives.
He thanked the staff and students of the University for their hard work and commitment to the University community, attributes, which he said, they copiously demonstrated throughout the recent celebration of the 50th anniversary of the University.
The Vice Chancellor urged all to reflect on the timeless lessons of Christmas, which, according to him, are hope, generousity, and the power of community. He enjoined them to recommit to nurturing knowledge, compassion, and progress within the University community and beyond.
Professor Egbewole said that the management would continue to treat members of the University community and its relevant publics with absolute respect and fairness regardless of where they come from or the religion they practise.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), also assured members of the University community of the readiness of his Administration to continue to pay priority attention to their welfare abd well being.
While calling for moderation in celebration, Prof. Egbewole wished all a joyous Christmas and a New Year filled with purpose and achievements.
