Unilorites hail management on green, clean campus

By Abubakar Imam

The management of the University of Ilorin has, again, been commended for always maintaining a green and clean environment around the campus, particularly in the academic and residential areas.

This commendation was made by a cross-section of members of the University community who spoke with UNILORIN Bulletin last Wednesday (May 28, 2025).

Leading the commendation is the Director, Centre for Laboratory to Products (LABTOP), University of Ilorin, Prof. Muhammad Jimoh Saka, who said that he was very impressed with the manner vegetation across the University is being controlled.

He added that the effort would always make the University neat, attractive and inviting.

Prof. Saka, who teaches at the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, said that the controlled vegetation would also encourage learning as students would feel free to go to their classes in the evening for study.

Mr AbdulGaniyu Ambali, a student of the Department of Telecommunications Science, also commended the management for the control of the vegetation around the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.

He said that he was even more impressed that the vegetation control is done through mechanical means instead of the manual way that was previously employed.

Mr Ambali encouraged the management of the various Faculties to impress it on their cleaners to ensure that papers and other waste products littering the environment are picked and properly disposed of to complement the efforts of the University’s central administration.

Miss Princess Bilewu, a student of the Department of Library and Information Science, also commended the management on the vegetation control.

She explained that the effort is making the campus safer for students and staff.

Miss Bilewu also said that the vegetation control also makes the campus looks well kept and beautiful.

She advised that this effort should be repeated as often as possible, particularly during this raining season for the benefit of the staff and students.

Also speaking, Miss Sharon Olalere, who is a student of the Department of Physiology, also praised the University management for a good job.

She said that the exercise has not only boosted the beauty of the campus but also enhanced visibility as she said that one could see objects from far distances unlike before.

In her view, Miss Temitope Adeyeye, who is a student of the Department of Educational Technology, said that she was impressed with the vegetation control.

She explained that the control of the vegetation would not only keep dangerous reptiles far away from members of the University community but also prevent the spread of airborne diseases as it would also make the campus look good and appealing.
