Unilorite makes history in AI Olympiad

An alumnus of the University of Ilorin, Mr AbdulAzeez Tajudeen, has attracted for Nigeria a ticket to participate in this year’s edition of the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).
Mr AbdulAzeez, who obtained his first and second degrees in Anatomy from the University in 2015 and 2019, respectively, made this known last Tuesday (January 13, 2025) in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin.
The international contest, according to Mr AbdulAzeez, is scheduled to hold between 2nd and 8th August, 2026, in Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), United Arab Emirates and will feature outstanding Secondary School students who would compete inĀ AI problem-solving, innovation and ethical reasoning.
He explained that the Olympiad would also draw participants, experts and partners from across Nigeria and beyond, creating opportunities for collaboration, mentorship and global exposure for young talents.
Mr AbdulAzeez said that this is the first timeĀ Nigeria will be participating at global level among other 26 countries.
He encouraged students, educators and industry stakeholders, and government, to come out in large numbers to be part of it.
With the contest, Mr AbdulAzeez has made history as Nigeria’s first accredited Country and Territory Coordinator for the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, positioning the University of Ilorin community and Nigeria at the forefront of global AI education and youth innovation.
